Balsamo Olson Lewis honored
OAKBROOK TERRACE—Balsamo Olson Lewis Ltd. has received a Crystal Key award from the Home Builders Association of Greater Chicago. The architectural firm was recognized for its work on The French Normandy House, a single-family home in Hinsdale built by Lemont-based Morgan Builders.
CDH recognized/expands
WINFIELD—Central DuPage Hospital has been ranked in the top 10 percent of hospitals in the nation for stroke, pulmonary, GI surgery and critical care in The Tenth Annual HealthGrades Hospital Quality in America Study. The study, the largest of its kind, analyzed patient outcomes at virtually all of the nation's 5,000 hospitals over the years 2004, 2005 and 2006. The hospital has also received approval from the Illinois Hospital Facilities Planning Board for a $235.2 million bed pavilion.
Conservation Foundation merges with FVLF
NAPERVILLE—The Conservation Foundation has announced its merger with Fox Valley Land Foundation, with a goal of increasing the pace of land protection in Kane County. Both organizations have been actively involved with land conservation there. TCF will continue the programs and projects put in place by FVLF.
Elmhurst College increases collections
ELMHURST—Elmhurst College marked a banner year for fundraising and collected the third highest dollar total in school history. For fiscal year 2007, which concluded on June 30, Elmhurst College received more than $4 million in gifts, a 26-percent increase over the previous year.
Koch Foods honored
PARK RIDGE—Koch Foods has received the 2007 Vendor of the Year Award from Unified Supply Chain, Inc. The award recognizes supply-chain partners that provide superior service and outstanding support to 5,600 Dairy Queen locations. The firm is the fourth-largest poultry producer in the U.S. with annual revenues of $1.7 billion.
Graue Mill recognized
OAK BROOK—Graue Mill and Museum has received an Award of Excellence from the Illinois Association of Museums for its educational program, “Farming Then and Now—From Planting to Harvest.” The program is a six-month curriculum for home-schooled students taught by Graue Mill staff and master gardeners from the University of Illinois Extension–DuPage. The program was recognized because it teaches across the curriculum rather than just history, engages an underserved audience and addresses multiple learning styles.
MPS formed
BURR RIDGE—Mulcahy, Pauritsch, Salvador & Co., Ltd., CPAs, with offices in Orland Park, Burr Ridge and Chicago, has announced the formation of MPS Capital Advisors, LLC, which will provide strategic and financial consultation for families, business owners, individuals and private equity groups assisting in the acquisition or sale of closely held middle-market businesses.
Quidlibet and Tax Dude enter joint venture
OAK BROOK—Quidlibet Financial Advisors, a tax and financial advisory practice, has formed and will use the trademark, The Tax Dude. The firm also will enter into a joint venture arrangement with Nina Cunningham, president of the Oak Brook firm of Quidlibet Research, Inc. Quidlibet has provided strategic planning and cost reduction services to law firms and professional organizations for 25 years.

ST. CHARLES—American Black Forest Clocks has opened at 612 W. Main St.
WILLOWBROOK—Portillo’s Hot Dogs and Barnelli’s Pasta Bowl has opened at Willowbrook Town Center at Ill. Rte. 83 and Plainfield Road. This is the 45th location for the Portillo Restaurant Group, the largest privately-owned restaurant company in the Midwest.
WOOD DALE—TopGolf has opened at 699 W. Thorndale Ave., next to the Salt Creek Golf Club.
ELGIN—Old Second Bank has opened at Route 20 and Nesler Road. This is the bank’s third location in Elgin.
SCHAUMBURG—Vascular Transplant Services, a tissue provider specializing exclusively in vascular tissue, has opened at 2122 Palmer Drive. VTS handles the entire tissue process—from medical screening to distribution. Its clients include vascular surgeons across the nation.
BOLINGBROOK—Harris has opened a branch at 710 S. Weber Road.
